Electrocardiogram classes are usually very easy to enroll in and are often available at community colleges. The price will vary depending on state and location but can cost as little as $2,000 to complete a one year certification program. Some states require a license to work as an EKG technician so you'll need to check with the state in which you intend to work. You can either be certified from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). There are a number of certifications available from each depending on your specialty, such as a Certified Cardiographic Technician and Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist. Some certifications may require longer amounts of schooling.
ECG/EKG: Programs and Schools
Most basic EKG courses can be completed in one year with a certification program, although they will still require on-the-job training by a supervisor or even a cardiologist. The on-the-job training can last from two to four months. If you choose not to complete on-the-job training you can go with a two year program at a community college or even a four year program. Two year programs are designed to teach specialized instruction, although the majority of doctors and facilities prefer to train the students themselves, making a one-year program a better option for most.
