Federal security guards are security guards employed by the government for the sake of the country’s security. Security guards must also be licensed and have any special certifications that may be required for some particular jobs. The Federal Protective Service also requires that all contract security guards undergo a written examination based on various important areas of the security profession. Additionally, the contracted security companies need to comply with strict codes about how their security guards should be dressed, how many hours they work, the equipment they use and how thoroughly records are kept. The Federal Protective Service has many more rules and regulations that most security guard employers, although positions as federal security guards are often better paid than other security guard positions.

With regard to demand, federal security jobs are more in demand than ever. Because of the fear of terrorism that exists these days, many more are employed, especially in governmental properties or in places seen as being particularly at threat of being attacked by terrorists. Since the 9/11 attacks the number of federal security guards has risen, and it is therefore a very good place for becoming employed as a security guard in this day and age.
