There are many community, state and private colleges that offer courses for an individual who wants to become a security guard. Getting a degree can take anywhere from two to four years. The difference between two years in school can make a huge difference in the job opportunities available after graduation because of the more extensive training, if a person chooses to go the route of taking formal classes. When looking for a school to get complete training to become a security guard some of the recommended things to look for are programs that offer self defense, physical training, arrest procedures and emergency procedures.
Many programs also offer to help individuals to look for a security guard position after graduation. Some of the highest paid positions are when working for the federal government and those positions will require a lot more training, but the conditions will still vary from state to state. There is no reason to believe that the need for security is a dying profession, if anything the demand for security is higher now than ever before. The need for highly trained security guards is growing every year and the opportunities are out there for the right individuals.
