The American Chiropractic Association is the nodal body representing chiropractors of the U.S., promoting their interests on the issues related to their profession, and working for the advancement of the chiropractic and chiropractors in every possible way. It was founded in 1922 and has a membership of over 15,000 today. It maintains it headquarters at 1701, Clarendon, Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22209. Functions
The purpose of the ACA is to ensure the highest standards of ethics in the chiropractic profession so as to provide the best possible care for its patients, promote a positive image of the chiropractic and chiropractors in the eyes of the people in general, and work for the interests of the chiropractic and chiropractors .
To protect and advance the interests of the chiropractors countrywide, the ACA carries out lobbying with the Govt., cultivates public relations and liaisons with the official machinery and promotes opportunities for chiropractors- both educational and professional. It funds research in the discipline of chiropractic health care and coordinates the activities of various chiropractor bodies to maintain exceptional standards ethics in the profession and care for the patients so as to provide the best possible treatment and care to the patients who opt for chiropractic treatment.
Organization
To be able to fulfill its purpose properly, the ACA has a Board of Governors, a House of Delegates and a number of committee. The Board of Governors has 12 members including the Chairman, the President and the Vice President, who constitute the Executive Committee. The present chairman is Mr. Mario Spoto. The House of Delegates is the law making body of the ACA. It consists of 125 delegates who represent all the 50 states of the U.S. It meets two times every year. One of these two sessions coincides with the associations annual meeting in September.
There are also 11 specialty councils representing various specialties of chiropractic like pediatrics, nutrition, occupational health and sports injuries and physical fitness.
The ACA also has a student wing named Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA) where current chiropractic students can cultivate their leadership and planning skills. The purpose of SACA is to further the interests of the chiropractic profession by increasing active student involvement in the ACA. SACA members are the leaders of the chiropractic profession of tomorrow.
As the representative of all the chiropractors, the ACA constantly ensuring that their voice is heard at the places that matter to them- the halls of the Congress, the White House and the regulatory agencies. It is aggressively involved in lobbying for the most vital issues affecting the whole chiropractic profession like improved access to chiropractic services and expanded scope of its practice.
