How to Challenge the PALS Class

If you are an experienced advanced level provider working with pediatric patients and are in need of PALS renewal certification, you may qualify for a challenge. A challenge is for experienced providers that already know the material and do not need instruction on the subject matter. You may be a pediatric physician, nurse, or paramedic who has extensive experience with pediatric patients and have had the PALS course many times. If this is the case and you do not need the CE or CEU credits, then it is simply a matter of finding a training center or an authorized instructor that will provide a challenge for you.
They are almost always scheduled by appointment and cost about the same as a renewal course. Challenging PALS is not something that is advertised like traditional courses and for this reason many providers do not know that it is even an option. In addition, pediatric professionals are not as abundantly available as with general practitioners, so the market for PALS challenges is very small. However, a closed mouth doesn’t get fed, and you won’t know unless you ask. As online education progresses and is more widely accepted, you can now legitimately complete your PALS certification course online and come in to a class only for skills practice.
I talk to many people who say “I can’t take anything online. My employer won’t allow it.” Well i’m sorry….if you are one of those people you need to wake up and smell the coffee….or maybe you employer does. Online training is even endorsed and provided by the American Heart Association and the certification that you get is the SAME as if you took a traditional class. By the way, the PALS programs is designed by the AHA. You can’t get a “more” legitimate pediatric advanced life support certification. Challenging PALS is not for everyone. However, if you are ready it may be the thing for you.
