The American Safety and Health Institute
The American Safety and Health Institute, ASHI, is an international association that provides emergency training for laypersons, coaches, medical professionals, first responders, and others through a network of 35,000 professional educators and over 5,500 training centers located around the globe. ASHI offers courses in more than 20 different countries. In the United States, ASHI is one of the top five training providers of emergency care. Training can be done at a training center, online or on location. ASHI offers a variety of teaching methods to meet the requirements of a diverse learning community. Many state and local governments, correctional institutions, businesses and non-profit organization train their personnel using programs offered by ASHI.
Each course developed by ASHI meets standards set by the Department of Labor, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, The Department of Homeland Security and others. Individual state regulatory agencies like the State of California EMSA, Board of Registered Nurses and many professional associations also recognize courses developed by ASHI. Courses are continually being updated with the latest knowledge in each specific medical area. Instructors for the American Safety and Health Institute may be emergency medical technicians, firefighters, or simply people with a commitment to educating the public about CPR and first aid. Courses offered cover a wide variety of topics. The Wilderness Emergency Care suite of programs covers basic wilderness first aid for volunteers and professionals in low-risk situations. Sudden cardiac arrest is the cause of death of approximately 7000 children each year, many of them student athletes. Other courses cover blood borne pathogens and the use of emergency oxygen.
