First Aid Training Online: Pros and Cons
Online first aid classes are convenient for those individuals who don’t have the time to go to a traditional classroom. They offer flexibility for a busy schedule however, are they just as beneficial is the question. Many people may believe it is more difficult to take an online class but before making that determination more information is needed. Below is a list of both the pros and cons of taking an online first aid class to help you decide.
Pros
First on the list of pros is the convenience. If you are tight on time you can take the classes when you are free or around your schedule. There is no set time to be in class. It is also much more affordable to take an online session. Traditional first aid classes are a bit more costly because they have to pay an instructor and overhead for the space and learning supplies. After convenience and cost comes the amount of time you can review the information. There are pictures, diagrams and interactive learning videos to show you how things are to be done and the proper way to do them. Most people may not feel comfortable asking the instructor the amount of questions it takes for them to fully understand. Working with an interactive learning tool you can repeat the information as many times as you wish. You can wear your pajamas and slippers to class and no one will ever know. There is no early morning rising to drive through heavy traffic just a quick roll out of bed and stroll to your computer desk. You don’t have to wait for a class to open up in your area. Some classes wait until they have a certain amount of students registered. You don’t have to worry about that with an online class. After completion of your first aid class you can print your certification.
Cons
One of the cons to online course is not being in a classroom setting. You can not ask a teacher if you are holding your hands correctly or if you are doing it right.

There are actually more cons to taking the class online then listed. You must be computer literate to take this course online. You don’t have to be a whiz or have a degree in computer science, but you do need to know how to navigate and have common computer sense. You also do not get any hands on skill practice. Pressure bandages, slings and splints as well as glove removal are all part of a basic first aid course.
A talented instructor with a great program is by far better then online training for those who have never had first aid training before. Computers are great and I think online first aid is wonderful for those who have already had sufficient training in the past, but it just is not the best way for everyone. Perhaps if all your after is a certification card then online training may be the thing for you. But if you want a good grasp on first aid skills then taking a class taught by a competent professional is the way to go. After all when it comes to first aid being done on you would you want a computer trained Good Samaritan or someone who has at least had in class hands on practice?
