CPR/AED Training for Dental Assistants and Hygienist

19 October 2011 No Comment

If you are interested in a career in dental assisting you may want to consider completing the CPR/AED for health care provider certification course. Dental assistants are often required by state laws to have CPR/AED certification as a condition of acquiring or maintaining dental assistant certification. In addition, some schools will require CPR/AED certification either as part of enrolling in a course or completing a dental assisting course. Dental assistants are often involved with assisting dentist and hygienist with patient care.

In the event that something goes wrong or a patient has a medical emergency, dental assistants may be needed to provide aid along with other members of the dental team. Basic life support generally is best performed by a team that has been CPR/AED trained and certified. The team approach gives that patient the best chance of receiving effective and appropriate care. Although licensed professionals, neither dentists or dental hygienists respond to emergencies every day and are not considered emergency care professionals. Having everyone who is part of the dental care team trained in basic life support measures can significantly improve the chances of an efficient response in the event of a medical emergency at the office.
