Are You Taking The Right Class?

 

Basic life support training is a must for almost anyone. CPR is an essential skill in the treatment of the cardiac arrest patient. Bystander CPR with rapid defibrillation improves outcomes dramatically. Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support are required certification programs for some health care providers. in either case, the majorityof students taking these classes are doing so for an employment or academic need. When deciding on which program to use for your training, ensure that it is an accredited certification and that it will be accepted by your employer or school.

Organizations often have a specific certification preference or a standing policy. Sometimes the employer of a school simply wants accredited certification and is not biased toward a particular certification program as long as it is accredited. It is wise for students and employees to ask if a particular certification is required of them BEFORE they take a class anywhere.

It is not the responsibility of the training center to determine what your organization requires. Consequently, if your agency requires certification "A" and you unknowingly take certification program "B", it is not the training centers fault that you took the wrong class.

In contrast, an employee or managers personal preference does not always reflect organizational policy, if there is a policy in place. If an academic or employment application says that you must have BLS certification, but does not specify from what particular agency, it is recommended that you get clarification BEFORE taking a class. This is the only way to be certain that you are meeting the necessary requirements and are taking the right class.
