There are three ways from which you can choose to qualify as an applicant for Occupational Therapy Licensure examination. The options you can take depend on whether you want to take the licensure test for Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapist Assistant, or Occupational Therapist Guide.

The following are the three general guidelines used in applying for an Occupational Therapy Program.

Admission to college or technical school. To qualify for the programs, the first thing you need to do is to apply to the school where you plant o take your formal education (Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees) or accredited training programs in Occupational Therapy. There are many colleges and technical schools that you can choose from across the United States.

High school completion. Another very important requirement to qualify to any program is high school completion. Even if you have work-related experiences, you still have to graduate from high school. In some schools, they have grade requirements that you need to satisfy to qualify, usually it’s 2.5 or better. Some schools even have grade preferences in particular subjects, specifically the physical and social sciences like Biology, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, etc.

Acceptable Criminal Records, as much as possible. Applicants for the programs are favored if they have clean criminal records. Records of felony convictions can hinder a person from taking a licensure exam and being awarded a license. People who have criminal records need to undergo the Early Determination Review which they have to pay for $100. If you have a record and you pass the EDR, they will issue you a certificate to qualify you to apply for the licensure test. You just have to ensure that no incident of similar nature occurs after the release of EDR results.

Schools favor individuals who have taken particular subjects in high school such as Biology, Anatomy, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, and Sociology. It will also help if you can secure proof of employment if you have worked in nursing facilities or other course-related work experiences. If you have work-related experiences in the field of occupational therapy, secure proofs or certificates for this as this increases your chances of being accepted as an applicant. Otherwise you can either take the degree programs in occupational therapy offered in colleges or take a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational therapy Education (ACOTE).

If you are interested about studying occupational therapy, you can have distance learning and on-school study. Distance learning is offered in many online sites that have partnerships with reputable schools. Most of the subjects are taken online yet there are also some course works that require physical presence in school. If you want this distance learning type of schooling, just make sure that you check the credibility of the online school which you are applying for to avoid being a victim of online scams.

Many are surprised to learn that a bachelor’s degree is not necessary to become a radiology technician. Though a bachelor’s degree isn’t a requirement, many radiologists do find it beneficial to pursue one. Radiologist who have only a high school diploma (or equivalent) and certification generally make less money than those who have a higher level of education. As in any other medical field, the more education one has the more potential there is for employment and advancement. Because the field of radiology is continually growing and developing, many students are finding that it is easier to find opportunities for advancement with higher education and specialization.

Statistics demonstrate that radiologists with a bachelor’s degree have a higher annual income than those who do not. Income is often determined by the level of education and the amount of experience that the radiologist has, as well as the region in which he or she works. All other things being equal, education is the deciding factor. Radiologist with only a high school level of education can expect to make an average of $30,000 per year and a maximum income of $56,000 annually. On the other hand, those who have a bachelor’s degree can often obtain entry positions averaging around $63,000 per year and going up from there. This makes obtaining a degree a smart investment for most technicians.

Because there is such a high demand for radiologist, many choose to take the fast track and get into radiology with only limited education. This means that there are more high paying positions available for those who choose to extend their education and pursue higher paying long-term careers in radiology. Those who take the quick route of getting on-the-job training in radiology will find that their income increases with experience. However, they will never make as much as they would with a bachelor’s degree. Those who have worked in radiology for two years but have only an associate’s degree will only average between $37,000 and $43,000 annually. Those on the job for ten years and longer will still only make an average of $55,000 per year, an amount that is still well below the earnings of a radiologist with a bachelor’s degree. This means that even though a bachelor’s degree is not required to pursue a career in the field of radiology, it is definitely advisable. Getting a bachelor’s degree before pursuing a career as a radiologist can expand an individual’s career options as well as their income over the course of their career.
