EMT Firefighter

Being a firefighter is no easy task. This job is very difficult and a firefighter is in dangerous situations nearly every single day. As a firefighter you respond to emergency situations. A firefighter must be able to use physical strength and mental ability to reduce the risk to all people involved in the emergency. For this reason most firefighters are required to also be EMTs. A firefighter EMT will have the training to be able to care for the injured and ill and provide the proper treatment to those in need.

An EMT will also be able to administer medications and transport victims to the emergency room. To become a certified firefighter/EMT an accredited firefighter program and an accredited EMT course must be passed. After attending the trainings and classes a written test will be given. This test must be passed along with a skills assessment test in order to become certified. These courses may be offered as part of the fire academy but some stations prefer to keep the certifications separate. Working as a firefighter/EMT is physically demanding. The job can be stressful and strenuous.

EMT schooling

It is important to be able to remain calm during stressful situations and be able to maintain the ability to follow directions. As a firefighter/EMT you will work in some of the most dangerous situations. It is important to be able to use your training to stay safe and help others around you remain safe as well. A firefighter/EMT will be required to keep his/her certification up to date and to always take continuing education courses.
