Wild Land Firefighter

A wild land firefighter is one of the most dangerous jobs there is. It takes a certain amount of courage and strength. There are positions available as a wild land firefighter; obtaining one of these jobs may prove to be difficult though. The problem lies within the fact that there are no standard application processes for these positions. Some of the national forests hire through their state employment offices directly, while others just hire directly.

Some of the forest accept applications directly but only until they fill the position. If you are looking for a temporary summer job and inquire about it in the winter the forest service staff may not know what is going to be available. There has also been a decrease in the number of temporary positions available to do lack of funding. This makes searching for a job as a temporary wildlife firefighter that much more difficult. If you are serious about this type of work you will need to make sure to have a high level of skills. The more experience obtained the higher the chance of getting a job. If you do not know how to do something that would be beneficial in the field take the time to learn it.

Wild land firefighters must have a variety of skills to make it out in the wild. Most of all learning basic survival skills are of the utmost importance. If you truly have the desire to work in this field it is important to train yourself thoroughly in all aspects of the job, and then be persistent about getting the firefighter job you want.
