Firefighter Entrance Exams
In order to be accepted into fire service you will be required to pass entrance exams. These examinations are not easy and should not be taken lightly. A lot of people make the mistake of not studying for these tests and they fail because of this. If you are truly interested in becoming a firefighter it is important to take the entrance exam seriously and plan out a study program before your examination date.
Not only must you prepare for the written portion of these tests but it is also important to train physically as well. The physical examination required is strenuous and will require you to be in top physical shape.
Different firefighter academies will require different forms of an entrance examination. The basic tests you will be asked to take include an English and Math assessment test along with a physical ability examination. Some schools may require a personal interview before acceptance into the program.
The English and math exams will require you to prove your basic skills in these areas. They may consist of both multiple choice questions along with writing portions. Passing these exams will be essential in being accepted into the program. The physical examination is perhaps the most difficult. This test is designed to test your strength and agility. The test will consist of many physical tests which may include a hose drag, a ladder raise, an equipment carry, and a rescue mission. These tests are all timed and passing is required for entrance into the academy.
