An aerobics instructor will lead, motivate and instruct either individuals or groups in aerobics exercise fitness. Working as an aerobics instructor is not only a great way to keep up your own fitness, but also a wonderful opportunity to have fun, meet new people and earn a living.

To become an aerobics instructor one must be in good physical shape, have excellent communication and people skills, and have a general knowledge of physical fitness. Having a CPR or first aid certificate along with certification as an aerobics instructor is preferred although some places will hire you based on experience alone.

If obtaining certification in aerobics you will learn to identify the safety methods for avoidance of injuries, warm up and cool down movements, the different types of aerobics along with their different levels, the importance of good posture, the latest and most sought after forms of aerobic exercise and dance movements and how to use cueing methods effectively in regards to both verbal and visual commands. An aerobics student will learn how choreograph many different routines in time to music.

An aerobics instructor will most likely work part-time hours and most often in the evening or weekends, as most people work during the daytime hours. An aerobics instructor will find employment in health clubs, fitness centers, or other physical fitness facilities.

The salary for a part-time aerobics instructor varies in regards to what type of facility you are employed at and in what state you are working in. Many aerobics instructors will have a couple of part-time jobs in order to obtain a full-time schedule. Some aerobics instructors may even have private clients where instruction is done in either their home or the client’s home.

Some aerobics instructors may even want to take their knowledge and love for physical fitness a step further and consider becoming a personal trainer, which offers an even greater rate of pay and more opportunity for advancement in the physical fitness industry.

If you enjoy the atmosphere of your favorite gym, working out and boosting your own physical fitness, meeting new people and earning money all at the same time then becoming an aerobics instructor is most likely a job that you will enjoy. Many opportunities are available for an aerobics instructor and the health industry is booming in general as more and more people are taking care of their bodies.
