Massage Therapist School and Training
Massage has become one of the most enjoyable fields for anyone wanting to have a close interpersonal job with their clients. This makes it possible to earn a high income by doing something that helps people feel great and allows you to understand the complex inner workings of how the body’s muscles and organs play closely together in personal health and fitness. Helping others with therapeutic massage therapy can also expand a person’s overall wellness by providing such healing services while knowing they are making a difference in someone else’s life.
Many colleges and specialized schools offer massage therapy training courses to students of any background. Finding a school near you could be as simple as using a website designed to couple prospective students with interests in massage therapy. Many courses are available to all students that meet the requirements for their appropriate field of massage. It is recommended to apply to more than one school to broaden your choices when accepted. There are even online options available to most students.
Tuition should not be a major issue for most students. There are scholarships and assistance programs available to most students that qualify which may eliminate costs or severely reduce them. Every school has a different price range for their courses. Additional costs that you will have to look out for are costs of books, uniforms, massage table and a few other expenses. The costs of schooling will vary depending on the individual course selections of the student and amount of time they wish to study.

Massage Therapist: Training Specifics
Training can be anywhere from 600 to 800 hours for most students. If the student wishes to get further training, certification and recognition of abilities they must continue with their training. This will vary from student to student as their individual course selections and paths are decided. Therapeutic and rehabilitative massage that is medically licensed is usually a longer route than those wishing to perform massage on a cruise ship or other place. Those who wish to open their own massage parlors will also have to have extended training to get certified.
Most people that go into massage think that they will have hands on approach to learning the arts of massage therapy. There are actually many courses involved in anatomy and physiology that a student must complete before they are even able to learn specific techniques. Once all of the required courses are fulfilled, the students may start learning the basics in actual practice. The advancement of the individual is usually dependant on the abilities of the individual and the amount of time they have to focus on training and perfecting the intricate art of massage therapy. It is not as simple as touch massage, it is more and becomes a valuable skill to heal and create comfort for those who are in discomfort.
Not all massage schools are the same. Some may focus on a specific massage technique while others use both western and eastern massage techniques in their courses. There are also other specialized schools which will specialize in spiritual massage techniques and advanced techniques such as craniosacral therapy which takes longer to learn than the more simple massage techniques. Each school will have differences in recognition of certification and some are regionally specific to an area and may not be honored in another.
Online Education and Criminal History Screening
Online massage school options are available that will allow most people to learn from home and allow them to partake in the use of scholarships and grants. This option is for most people who are too far from an institution and cannot take regular courses due to other situations. This option is also available to those who wish to learn the basics of massage to work for a company that provides massage services on cruise ships or hotels and other large tourist areas. Online courses may not carry the needed training to open a massage parlor of your own.
Every student that enrolls in a massage school will have to pass a criminal background check to screen out potential risks to future patients. A school will generally take bad views on people with criminal records because one crime could lead to the next larger and more severe crime. This is especially true for people with past domestic violence and sexual assault on their files. If there are similar charges on a person’s file, massage therapy may not be an appropriate field to pursue.
