Pediatrics Nurse Practitioner Salary Facts

Pediatrics nurses command high salaries because of their scarcity, and good pediatric nurses, such as complete pediatric nurse practitioner specializations and work for 5 years or more as pediatric nurses, can obtain up to 50% more in salary and remuneration than ordinary pediatric nurses. So if a common pediatric nurse makes anywhere from $50,000 to $65,000 a year before taxes, a pediatric nurse practitioner can reasonably expect to command anywhere from $70,000 to $90,000 a year, before taxes.

Of course, this depends on whether the salary comes from the private or the public sector, whether the work is full-time or part-time, on job experience, and so on. A pediatric nurse practitioner salary is earned after one completes a RN (registered nurse) qualification as well as a Masters in Nursing that allows one to pick and qualify for a nursing specialty. Therefore expect to work long hours in the beginning. Nurses are in short supply, especially fully-qualified ones with great work experience, so there is light at the end of the tunnel – it may just be hard to see in the beginning.

So, for instance, a pediatric nurse practitioner works for a nursing degree in pediatrics alongside his or her daytime job, for 5 years or so. After those 5 years, assuming they did well, they can expect their pediatric nurse practitioner salary to be $20,000 more than that of a similar nurse without the specialty. Remember, though, that opting for this specialty requires considerable weighing of pros and cons – only go for it if you are really committed.
