After a gruelling day dealing with difficult patients or emergencies nurses need to remember to ensure that they have completed the all the jobs however minor. Saving one patient’s life and dealing with exhaustion and stress they still have to keep in mind the other ailing patients. They need to make sure that each one of them is bathed and fed while the medications have been correctly and accurately dispensed. A small effort from the nurse’s side to sponge bath a patient will go a long way in helping the patient feel better and mentally and physically comfortable. Cleanliness is also important in terms of keeping the surface area disinfectant and keeping the patients body clean to avoid any dangerous onset of infections. Hence even changing bandages should not be overlooked however stressful the day may have been.

A nurse’s responsibility is to keep in mind the smallest tasks allotted to them and pay attention to details. They need to ensure that they understand the patients need and pick up any new symptoms in time since it could turn out to be life threatening. Learning to pay attention to the surroundings would help in the long run when reporting any new symptoms to the doctor or for maintaining a healthy environment for the patients. Any negligence on the part of the nurse could result in endangering not only the patient but the hospital staff as well. They have to remember to dispose of the syringe right after use and change bed pans in time. It is the little things that the patients appreciate and a smile or a positive chat can help them feel a lot better. A good nurse will always pay attention to details and if it isn’t an inherent part of her/his personality then they would strive to acquire it.
