Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone
Well it’s official. Manny Pacquiao just finished pounding Antonio Margaritos face into hamburger. I am very impressed. Manny is such an inspiring person to watch in boxing. I have always loved boxing and use to box with my friends in the backyard when I was a teenager. That was my first real form of aerobic activity that I enjoyed. Of course in school we had P.E. class with the running, jumping jacks and cherry pickers, but P.E. wasn’t anywhere near as fun as punching my friends in the face. With the right guidance I certainly could have made more of the sport, but it just didn’t work out that way. On a professional level, fighting 12 rounds against a skilled opponent is no easy task.
The training that goes along with boxing is very aerobic with a large part of the focus on improving cardiovascular fitness to go the distance. It certainly does you no good to be a skilled fighter who can’t go the distance. If you have never tried boxing it might be right up your alley. You certainly want to get yourself a trainer so that you are doing things correctly. Many gyms and fitness centers now have boxing incorporated into their group fitness courses. That is a great way to start. If you wanted to take it a step further then you would actually want to find a boxing gym and really learn how to throw the hands. Like many other competitive sports boxing adds a purpose to your workout other then getting in shape. Sparring and finding out how bad you really are compared to someone else can motivate you to improve. Some people do not work out well without having goals to accomplish.
I am one of those types. I like working out just for the sake of exercise, but like it even more if I have some kind of a challenge to push me forward. Human being’s can bring out the best in themselves when put under pressure, if their attitude is right. It is so much more valuable when you can see your progress and then compete against others who have been training as well. Competitive sports can really provide an opportunity for you to get out of your comfort zone. Seeing Manny move up in boxing weight classes like he has shows that he like’s to challenge himself. He is now a world champion in 8 different weight classes as well as a congressman in the Phillipines. Talk about getting out of your comfort zone. Most ordinary fighters stick to 1 or 2 classes, but few push themselves as far out of their comfort zone as Manny Pacquiao and I have yet to see another professional fighter being in active political service at the height of his boxing career. I do not believe that Manny Pacquiao is super human. I do believe that he is a wonderful example of what people can do when they are dedicated and get out of their comfort zone. It takes faith and courage to step out of conformity. People like Manny continue to demonstrate this basic principle of accomplishment:
“Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve.” W. Clement Stone
