This is a great book! Covers all the necessary aspects of trauma from a a field perspective. VERY informative and easy to understand. This book is useful whether you are taking the PHTLS course or not. By the way PHTLS is great class in itself and most of these classes come with very experienced staff as well as attendees. This makes the course so much more enjoyable and informative.

There’s not a huge market for this class from a business perspective and that is why they can be so hard to find. There is just not enough agencies requiring the course on a regular basis and when they do it usually is an entry type of requirement and not one that has to be maintained. Pre-hospital trauma care is not really something difficult to provide. Even if a provider isn’t functioning at an advanced level they can still provide good trauma care. That’s why the PHTLS class is open to basic providers as well as advanced providers, pre-hospital trauma is mostly BLS.

I agree, great course. This book being a military version is quiet a different animal though. Very much needed. Trauma is trauma pretty much anywhere, BUT the frequency and type of injuries sustained during military conflict call for curriculum of this sort. I take my hat off to anyone providing pre-hospital trauma care, but I would much rather have someone dealing with my blast injuries who has seen them before as opposed to a provider who has only seen slides in a class room.

That is if I have a choice. If there are slim pickens then i’ll take what I can get.
