Who Can Be A Security Guard?
Anyone with the skills between the ages of 18 through 65 can be a security guard. Companies seek those individuals who have the skills, training, mental and physical fortitude to provide their needs. A security guard requirements range from those who provide the look of physical ability to deter crime to those with the experience, skills and qualifications to determine an industries needs and then move forward to implement those needs. Before applying for the position of security or security guard, check the needs of the employer. The position runs the gamut from physical needs to physical, intellectual and mental needs.

Does the Field of Security Guard Require any Specialized Training?
By the Security Guard Act of 1992, Security Guards are required to have certain training. First, they must have acquired certification by taking an 8 hour Pre-Assignment Training Course. After successful completion of this course, the security guard is issued a certificate, which must then be submitted along with the security guard registration application to the Department of State. After submission of the application, the potential security guard has 90 days to complete a second training course, which requires 16 hours of on the job training (OJT). The OJT will be reasonably in line with the duties a security guard is required to perform, normal worksite requirements and individual or company needs. The third and last training requirement is an eight hour annual in service course. Each year, the security guard must update his skills, participate in refresher training and obtain instructions in recent changes in the field. Before renewal of the security guard license, all security guards must acquire this training by taking this course. Armed guards must successfully complete a 47-hour firearms course. The course will encompass 7 hours of classroom instruction in the use of force according to the practicing states law, 40 hours on the firing range and afterwards, weapons qualification. To practice armed security guard duties, the guard will then submit all paperwork, certifications and license acquired to the department of state before securing a position as a security guard.
Are There Entry Level Positions Available For Security Guard Graduates
The need for security guards far outweighs the available qualified individuals. Employers in all fields require security. The job announcements are non-ending.

Today’s security guard face situations never faced before. The need for qualified security guards is limitless. The need for security guards with advanced skills is rapidly growing. Security is quickly and continuously becoming a national concern. As of 2002, The USA Patriot Act has brought security and the need for more defined procedures to the forefront of our nation. Those individuals with additional skills and advanced qualifications will find themselves in demand and with limitless opportunities to their avail.
Salary expectations
Salaries in the field range. Depending on skills, training, whether armed or not and area of employment, the security guard can expect to make salaries from $20,000 yearly to $100,000 yearly. The field ranges in the needs and requirements from Banking to Executive level corporations. Celebrities hire security personnel endlessly. Some of those in certain fields are known to make huge yearly salaries.
