How Much Money Do Ultrasound Technicians Make?

Ultrasound technicians make varying amounts of money depending on several factors. Ultrasound, as a technology, is becoming more advanced and better at diagnosis; therefore the demand for ultrasound technicians is ever-increasing. New entrants to the profession will find themselves earning substantially less than those who have been in the profession for many years. Full-time ultrasound technicians can earn anything between $35,000 per year and $73,000 per year.
The average full-time ultrasound technician earns around $50,000 per year. The factors that make this figure vary include experience (i.e. whether the sonographer is a new graduate who is just starting out in the profession or whether they have been working in the profession for many years), workplace (different hospitals/clinics may pay different rates), education (those who have more education/sat the certification exam may find they get higher-paying jobs), location (some areas of the country offer better pay than others) and specialization (some specializations may result in higher pay due to more skill being needed).
Upon starting out work as a sonographer, individuals will find they earn a relatively low wage. Typical full-time wages for new graduates who are just starting out in the profession and have very little or no experience is somewhere around the $35,000 per year mark. With experience, pay increases significantly, since better job opportunities arise. Those with certification/a degree may find they earn more upon starting than those without, and may be able to progress up the job ladder at a quicker pace.
Seasoned ultrasound veterans can earn relatively high wages. Frequently, those individuals who have been working in the profession for many years may earn as much as $70,000 (full-time) per year and beyond. This figure, of course, varies based on the factors mentioned previously, but experienced ultrasound technicians generally always do earn relatively high wages.
Some ultrasound technicians choose to work part-time rather than full-time, meaning they work less than thirty hours per week. These individuals find the same factors influence their salary as with full-time sonographers (experience, workplace, education etc). Typical starting salaries per hour for ultrasound technicians are around $15, with that increasing to as much as $26 and beyond for those who have been working in the job for a long time.
