Pharmacists need to have a flexible time schedule

Pharmacists practice the science of pharmacy and are highly skilled and educated in pharmacy schools. Pharmacy technicians would interpret laboratory results or provide certain health care procedures to patients. The pharmacist would also sell medications prescribed by the doctor and often enlarge upon the particular side affects and benefits of the medicines. They are learned in the chemical structure of medicines and understand the different components that go into making them. They need to give advice to their patients and steer them in the right direction. All these different tasks need to be performed apart from handling staff and various personalities and this needs flexibility in terms of time. Anyone considering a pharmacy career has to realise that pharmacists do not have a fixed schedule. They need to be flexible and work long hours depending on the number of patients they may have to see. A number of pharmacies especially in hospitals are open twenty four hours and the pharmacist may have to work long shifts often doubling it in case of an unpredictable circumstance.
Pharmacists have a number of responsibilities and accumulating urgent reports may need them to put in extra hours. Advising and comforting a patient may also eat into their shift time apart from handling various prescriptions. They need to stay alert to spot any discrepancies and understand the patient’s needs. They may need to stay on their feet for hours and forgo their weekends. Their family needs to be understanding and allow for the various absences due long working hours. They cannot let their personal life encroach upon their job as they are responsible for providing for a number of ailing people. They should be prompt and on time making sure that the right medication is given to the people apart from offering over the counter drugs to ease patients in discomfort.
Pharmacists hold a lot of responsibility and they cannot pass on that onus to anyone else. They should put their work before their personal lives and a good pharmacist is always professional and flexible. They are the intermediaries between doctors and patients. They should be available whenever they are needed as their aim is to build relationships with their patients and monitor their health. A number of patients would not feel comfortable with discussing their personal issues unless it is with a familiar face. A good pharmacist would keep this in mind and try and be around as much as possible.
