According to the “National Industry- Occupation Employment Matrix,” a publication of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the future of the outlook for this type of job looks positive and the demand for trained individuals expects to rise 29% by the year 2012. Employment opportunities are plentiful, as retail pharmacies and other facilities expand. The online learning format includes finishing the course load through electronic forums. Students will get assignments, questions and lectures from an instructor, allowing individuals to study at their own convenience. Students are expected to login at least three to four days a week to complete assignments.

Teamwork skills are obtained by collaborating on additional assignments with a learning team. Pre-requisites for the program include fluency in written and verbal English and basic Math skills. Once the application is processed, students must either pay in full or get enrolled into a financing plan. Federal student aid programs such as the Stafford Student Loan plus Pell Grants assist students in paying for their education. Costs will vary with geographical location and education setting.

A pharmacy technology certificate can be achieved in a two-semester program, while a two-year paraprofessional program in pharmacy technology prepares certificate holders to get their Associates in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Pharmacy Technology.
