Becoming a pharmacist takes a long process but to be able to learn about the pharmaceutical industry and be able to help people is rewarding in itself. Anyone interested in becoming a pharmacist the best place to start is in high school, by taking life sciences courses, health and math courses. Then the studying begins to prepare for the pharmacy college admissions test.

While in college the student must take two years of pre-pharmacy college courses, then the major studies the third, fourth and fifth year of college are the serious courses of Pharmacology College. It takes approximately five years to complete pharmacology courses and receive a BS. If you want to become a Doctor of Pharmacology another two to three years is needed. In order to be licensed in a particular state you have to take a licensing exam. While in college in the senior year it is best to try to get an internship position with a pharmacist to get all of the experience you can.

Many jobs today require that their employees have a background and credit check. In the field of pharmacology everyone from the intern all the way up to the executives of the company has to get their backgrounds checked. In Pharmacy careers, the people that are involved with drugs, and dealing with the public have to be honest individuals without criminal histories. Pharmacy employees are looked at for any theft, drug convictions, health care fraud and abuse of drugs. A credit check is also needed to see what the credit history of an individual is and to see how they handle financial crisis.

When a credit check is done it is not to see what a persons score is, that is not as important as what the pattern of repaying bills is. If a person has a bankruptcy it is looked at as maybe that person is not able to handle pressure or finances. It may not be true but these are the things that companies look for. They have to weed out people that may be potential theft cases, drug users or health care fraud perpetrators.

Pharmacy careers are very rewarding and the pharmacy schools prepare the individual for the real world of pharmaceutical drugs, ailing patients and federal policies. The pharmacy programs offered by several schools offer courses that will ensure that the licensing exam that is required will not seem unfamiliar because all of the information is being taught in the classroom.
