Going to the dentist can be a traumatizing experience. The dentist may talk to you about all types of procedures that you do not fully understand. Most procedures that will be encountered at a dentist office are fairly common. Here are a few of the most common procedures a person might come across at their next dental appointment.

  • Fillings

Perhaps the most common form of dental procedure is the filling. Most adults have needed a filling at some point in their lives. A filling is a simple procedure in which a dentist will fill a cavity in a tooth with some type of filament, usually it is the same color as the teeth. This is done to prevent the spread of decay to other teeth. If you find yourself missing some teeth a dental implant can be the answer. This is a procedure in which a dentist will place an artificial tooth in the space of where the original tooth was.

  • Root Canal

A root canal is a procedure to kill the roots underneath and infected tooth. This procedure takes place when a tooth is infected and the infection is in the soft tissue and nerves.

  • Braces

Braces are also quite common. Most of the time braces are put on children, but some adults choose to get them as well.Braces are used to help straighten and align the teeth. They can be used to correct things such as an overbite or cross bite.

  • Veneers

If you are suffering from yellowing teeth you may want to consider veneers. A veneer is a thin piece of material used to enhance the way a tooth looks. Veneers are also used to fix and protect chipped teeth and help you gain that perfect smile in a cost-effective manner.
