Dental Materials: Clinical Applications for Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists
Dental Assistant careers start with a high school diploma or a GED. Things are going to get easier for you if you want to get accepted to a certified dental assistant school if you take college level courses on business, health, biology, anatomy, chemistry and computer classes. If you think you are completely prepared for the career without any of those classes, or you already took those classes, you can take the next step and enroll on a dental assistant school. Assistant careers require you to learn about patient care, dental terminology and record keeping, to get a diploma.
When you work as a receptionist in a dental clinic, you can earn very valuable skills by maintaining patient confidential records, setting up dental instruments, managing charts for the dentist, mixing up materials, applying sealants, learning to develop dental radiographs, sterilizing dental instruments and equipment, handling dental molds, and interacting with patients. When you have the perfect knowledge as dental assistant, apply for the dental assistant exam to obtain your license as dental assistant. Some states need you to have continuing education to keep your permit. You’ll spend from ten months to up to a year earning your certificate as dental assistant.
