Vetting: The Making of a Veterinarian
In the United States there are two levels of education for employment in this career field. At the entry level there is a 2-year Associate Degree Program for the Veterinary Technician. The more advanced educational program is a 4-year Bachelor Degree for the Veterinary Technologist. The majority of these College and University Programs (those in 45 States) are accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
After graduation, once the candidate has obtained the required State License or Certification to become eligible for employment, it may be beneficial to obtain additional certifications . For marketability the graduate can pursue th be certified by the AALS (American Association for Laboratory Animal Sciences). This certification is generally necessary if a graduate wants to work in laboratories or research facility.
